Do you need a writing course?

Do you need to improve your writing and grammar skills step by step?

The ELI is offering an online version of our on-site class. Enrolling in this on-line class offers you high quality instruction and high quality course content just as in our regular program. It is intended for those currently residing outside the United States.

Here is a description of the course.

Writing Grammar Level 2, High Novice

Class Objectives:
This class will help you:

  • gain confidence with the writing process
  • learn basic sentence patterns and vocabulary to help you read, write,
    understand and express your ideas in simple sentences, paragraphs and short essays
  • use patterns of narration and description
  • consult with peers to generate ideas and to get feedback on your writing
  • use basic grammar structures and verb tenses

Requirements:
In order to be a proficient writer, it is necessary to:

  • write daily (journals, diaries, out-of-class assignments)
  • understand the writing process by writing and receiving feedback
  • complete homework for class
  • pass Midterm and Final exams

 

Each student will receive feedback on writing and use of grammar structures.

Each student will be individually evaluated.

Each student will receive a certificate on sucessful completion of the course.

Writing Grammar Level 3, Intermediate

Class Objectives:
This class will help you:

  • write clear essays using solid paragraph structures
  • write about your experiences, express your opinion, and use other sources of information in your essays
  • organize your writing using different patterns: narration and compare-contrast
  • construct complete simple, compound and complex sentences
  • use the writing process: brainstorming, freewriting, interviewing, constructing a rough draft, editing, and creating the final draft
  • consult with peers to generate ideas and to get feedback on your writing

Requirements:
In order to be a proficient writer, it is necessary to:

  • write daily (journals, diaries, out-of-class assignments)
  • understand the writing process by writing and receiving feedback
  • complete homework for class
  • pass Midterm and Final exams

Each student will receive feedback on writing and use of grammar structures.

Writing Grammar Level 4, High Intermediate

Class Objectives
This class will help you:

  • understand, develop and become comfortable with writing as a process
  • develop paragraph construction
  • use two different rhetorical patterns to organize essays and shorter writings
  • learn how to paraphrase and summarize
  • expand control and use of content vocabulary, prefixes, suffixes and word forms
  • develop the use of compound and complex sentence structures
  • recognize and use all English verb tenses with an emphasis on the perfect tenses
  • recognize and use passive structures, gerunds and infinitives, and adverb and adjective clauses
  • enjoy writing through the use of creative writing

Each student will receive feedback on writing and use of grammar structures.

Each student will be individually evaluated.

Each student will receive a certificate on sucessful completion of the course
