What is the MBA Preparation Program?

The MBA Preparation Program is for students who want to enter the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at Eastern Washington University. It provides a bridge to academic studies at the MBA level. It includes both business content courses and English-language support classes.

How long is the MBA Preparation Program?

The program normally takes four quarters to complete, but in some instances can be done in less time depending on the student’s academic background and English proficiency.

How many courses will I need to take?

Each quarter, students will take two business foundation courses (8 credits) plus two English support classes (8 credits).

How do I decide which business classes I need to take?

The MBA director will determine which business classes are required academically and the ELI faculty will determine which business classes are required for language reasons.

Does credit earned in the MBA Preparation Program count towards my MBA degree?

No, classes taken in the MBA preparation program will not count towards your MBA degree. However, they will be used to calculate your GPA for the purposes of entering the MBA Program.

What is covered in the English-language support classes?

Three major skill areas worked on in the support classes are writing skills, discussion skills and presentation skills, all three of which are important when students enter the MBA Program. In addition, much of the content of the English-support classes will be based on what students are studying in their business classes.

What score do I need to pass into the full-time graduate studies?

At the end of each quarter, the student will be evaluated by both business faculty and ELI faculty. The students must pass the content courses with a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0 and must receive a “good” or “excellent” rating in the English-language support class.

Do I need a TOEFL or IELTS score to enter the MBA Preparation Program?

No. Students who are accepted by the MBA program can enter ELI, proceed through the Advanced Level 5, and then be recommended into the MBA Preparation Program.

What if I do have a TOEFL or IELTS score?
If your TOEFL score is between 525-550 PBT/71-79 iBT or your IELTS score is between 6.0-6.5, you can apply directly to the MBA Preparation Program. The MBA director and ELI faculty will decide on the coursework.
